ZULU DISCOVERY - FROM DURBAN

A wonderful journey through KwaZulu-Natal taking in the historic battlefields, traditional Zulu culture and the beautiful Drakensberg Mountains.

Day 1 - to Mkuze (335km)
Head north from Durban into the heart of Zululand, through attractive countryside and fields of gently waving sugar cane. If you get there around lunchtime take a boat trip on Jozini Dam it’s a great experience to get you into the holiday mood.

Overnight at Ghost Mountain Inn, which is set in absolutely stunning countryside in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. From here you can explore the coastal reserves in Maputaland and along the Elephant Coast, there are guided walks and cultural excursions which will show you the highlights of this scenic part of the country.

Day 2 – to the Battlefields for 2 nights (235km)
You might like to take a game drive in Hluhluwe National Park before heading off to the Battlefields. As you travel inland you’ll find yourself in the heart of battlefield country before arriving at The Royal Country Inn located in the town of Dundee where you spend two nights. From here you can visit Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift either independently or with an expert guides who will help bring history to life.

Day 4 – to the Drakensberg for 2 nights (250km)
After breakfast drive to the beautiful Drakensberg Mountains, South Africa’s highest and a world heritage site. You'll stay at Montusi Mountain Lodge where there are free guided walks and self guided trails to the waterfalls or ancient rock paintings in the area. On your second day you might like to go riding or just relax and enjoy the countryside and the views.

Day 6 – to Durban or Johannesburg (215 km)
Explore a little more of the Drakensberg before heading back to Durban and the coast. Alternatively, cross the mountains for the journey north to Johannesburg. You can drop your car at either destination.
