SWAZILAND & COAST - JOHANNESBURG TO DURBAN

A journey of ancient cultures, scenery and wildlife taking you from the bustling metropolis of Johannesburg to the balmy seaside city of Durban.

Day 1 - to White River and the Kruger for 2 nights (370 km)
From Johannesburg the fertile farmland of the Lowveld gives way to the scenic mountain vistas of eastern Mpumalanga. Your 2 night stay at White River provides a day to explore this beautiful region. For great game, head into the nearby Kruger National Park in search of the 'big five' from the comfort of your own rental car or on an optional guided open vehicle safari. Or, for spectacular scenery, spend the day amongst the natural wonders of Blyde River Canyon. Overnight at Casterbridge Hollow.

Day 3 – to Swaziland (210 km)
Travel today to the Kingdom of Swaziland, one of Africa's smallest nations, with a rich culture and heritage and some of the friendliest people. Bargain for some excellent African arts and crafts from roadside stalls or the main markets in the capital of Mbabane. Overnight at the Foresters Arms.

Day 4 – to Hluhluwe and Zululand for 2 nights (260 km)
As you cross back into South Africa you enter Zululand, home to the famous Zulu people. Enjoy a 2 night stay close to the Hluhluwe National Park in a region blessed with natural beauty. Go game spotting through the Park in your own car or take an optional full or half day guided safari. Overnight at Ghost Mountain Inn.

Day 6 – to Shakaland (200 km)
Take a morning cruise on beautiful Lake St Lucia, a world heritage site, looking out for hippo, crocodile and other wildlife, before driving on to Shakaland. Here you can interact with the locals as they demonstrate their fighting history and show you how they make beads, spears and beer (tasting is compulsory!). In the evening enjoy traditional dancing and a Zulu feast. Overnight at Protea Hotel Shakaland.

Day 7 - to Durban (160 km)
Head towards the Indian Ocean for you final drive into Durban. This holiday city has long sandy beaches and plenty of attractions - ask your consultant about an extended stay.
