The Good Hope - Cape Town to Pretoria
A grand 15-day journey aboard the Shongololo Express, showcasing many of the must see destination in South Africa, from metropolitan Cape Town to the Kruger National Park.
Day 1 Cape Town, Winelands, Hermanus &
Begin your adventure with a city tour of Cape Town, before boarding the Shongololo Express as it passes through the lush vineyards of the Western Cape. Continue by road over scenic mountain passes to Hermanus, renowned for its excellent land based whale watching, before heading back to the train. Meander along the beautiful Garden Route to the lagoon side town of Knysna to enjoy a boat ride to Featherbed Nature Reserve.
Day 4 Oudtshoorn, Graff Reinet, Bloemfontein and
Cross the dramatic Outeniqua Mountains to arrive at Oudtshoorn to visit an ostrich farm and the eerie Cango Caves. Re-join the train and head to historic Graaff Reinet for a walking tour, before continuing by rail to Kimberley to visit the Diamond Mine Museum. In the 'city of roses' Bloemfontein there is a visit to the Anglo Boer Museum followed by a thought provoking battlefield tour of Spionkop when the train stops at Ladysmith.
Day 9 Durban, St Lucia & Hluhluwe
On arrival in Durban on the shores of the warm Indian Ocean, there is a city tour, before travelling to the world-heritage site of St Lucia Wetland Park. Board the train and continue onto Hluhluwe for a game drive in South Africa's oldest national park and renowned for its conservation efforts in saving the rhino.
Day 12 Swaziland, Kruger & Panorama
Leaving the country for the first time, the Shongololo snakes its way through the Kingdom of Swaziland, before reaching the border of the mighty Kruger Park for a game drive to seek out its vast array of wildlife. Guests then enjoy the scenic and historical delights of the Panorama Route including Pilgrim's Rest and God's Window.
Day 15 Pretoria or Johannesburg
The final day sees the train pulling into the station where guests continue with a tour of Pretoria or Johannesburg.
