Johannesburg & Pretoria

Johannesburg is South Africa's largest city and many holidays will start or end here. It provides a gateway to Kruger National Park and the game reserves and attractions of the North West.

Neighboring Pretoria is the country's legislative capital, it has some fine old colonial buildings and is the stopping point for Rovos Rail and the Blue Train. Both cities offer a good choice of hotel accommodation.

Johannesburg & The North West

As the gateway to South Africa and its largest city, most visitors will pass through Johannesburg during their holiday. But stay a night or two and you'll discover a changing city with excellent restaurants, a startling array of shops and the thought provoking Apartheid Museum which gives you an insight into South Africa's all too recent past.

Take a tour of Soweto and learn about this fascinating neighbourhood which has played such an important role in the country's history and is home to two Nobel Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

South Africa's capital, Pretoria, is around half an hour from Johannesburg and is the terminal for both the Blue Train and Rovos Rail. The city is easy to explore with elegant tree lined avenues, especially pretty when the jacaranda trees are in bloom in October and November.

Within a very easy drive from Johannesburg lies the fantasy playground of Sun City, with lavish hotels, entertainment and attractions. Sun City is consistently popular with South Africans as well as visitors from around the globe. The Pilanesberg National Park lies close to Sun City and makes a great combination with the resort.

Nearer the border with Botswana is the larger reserve of Madikwe, home to the 'Big 5' and over 300 native bird species. Both Pilanesberg and Madikwe are malaria free.

Johannesburg's international airport connects with many African destinations, including Namibia, Botswana, Kenya and Mozambique and Mauritius. It is also be the starting point for many South Africa tours and visits to the famous Victoria Falls and Kruger National Park.
