The Royal Country Inn – Battlefields
Situated in the quaint little town of Dundee which is approximately halfway between Johannesburg and Durban and approximately 45 minutes drive from the KwaZulu-Natal battlefields.
The Inn offers a distinct old world charm, the walls of the lounge are covered with interesting memorabilia. After a day sightseeing relax with a home cooked dinner and a few drinks in the famous Garrulous Griffin Pub which is dedicated to the 24th Welsh Regiment, who fought valiantly at the battle of Rorke’s Drift.

Bayete Zulu Game Lodge - Hluhluwe
This charming lodge is located in Zululand Rhino Reserve just 3 hours drive from Durban and around 30 minutes north of Hluhluwe National Park. Take game drives around the reserve with a qualified ranger who will help you spot buffalo, hippo, rhino and various antelope species.

Rocktail Beach Camp - Elephant Coast
Set on the Indian Ocean and around 5 hours drive north of Durban the camp is surrounded by protected wilderness - where the world heritage site of St Lucia Wetlands Park meets the warm azure waters of the Maputaland Marine reserve. This is an area of remote unspoilt beaches, world class diving and abundant wildlife.
A leisurely 15 minute stroll from the beach, the camp is tucked away amongst coastal forest and sand dunes. On land experience prolific bird life, hippos and antelope whilst in the sea you will find huge shoals of fish, dolphin and whales. In season (Oct-Mar) the area also plays host to turtles who come ashore to lay their eggs.
Accommodation - The 17 part tented rooms have ceiling fans, ensuite facilities including an ‘open feel’ indoor shower and safe. Mosquito coils and repellent are also provided.
Facilities - Dining room, lounge and swimming pool. An activities package can be booked locally which includes guided beach walks, snorkelling and cultural visits.
Getting to Rocktail Beach Camp
The most straightforward and economical way to reach the camp is with your own self drive vehicle and the driving distances are as follows;
• 7 ½ hrs from Johannesburg
• 5 hrs from Durban
• 3 ½ hrs from Richards Bay Airport
Visitors in non 4wd vehicles can park at Coastal Cashews, a secure car park and pick up point. From here there are regular transfers for the 45 minute journey to Rocktail Beach Camp. The last transfer of is at 16.00. All timings are approximate
