The very best of South Africa on a 14 day grand tour around this remarkable country. As part of a small group, you will have time to absorb the culture and your enthusiastic guides who will ensure you never miss a place of interest or photo opportunity.
Day 1
- You will be met at Johannesburg airport for the start of your grand tour. Relax for the rest of the day or take an optional Soweto Township tour.
Day 2
- Depart today for South Africa’s capital city of Pretoria. Visit the Voortrekker Monument and take in the changing scenery as you journey to Mpumalanga.
Day 3
- This morning travel to Pilgrim’s Rest an old mining village where gold was first discovered and admire the views at God’s Window, before visiting the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, one of the natural wonders of Africa. Arrive at Kruger National Park in time for a sundowner and dinner.
Day 4
- Set off before breakfast in an open safari vehicle in search of lion, elephant and other big game or the native plant and bird life that make the Kruger famous.
Day 5
- Leave the Kruger for an enchanting drive to the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland and a Swazi cultural experience. Travel through the capital city, Mbabane, known for its vibrant markets packed with woven baskets, beadwork and carvings before a night in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley.
Day 6
-Travel on to Zululand, passing traditional round huts and enjoying fantastic views. The town of St Lucia is a World Heritage Site and home to hippo, crocodile and hundreds of bird species. Relax in the afternoon or take an optional game drive into Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park.
Day 7
- This morning enjoy a cruise on Lake St Lucia before departing for Durban. On arrival you are free to explore the beachfront or perhaps take an optional Durban City Tour.
Day 8
- Enjoy some free time until your transfer to the airport for your mid morning flight to Port Elizabeth. You will be met by a new guide who will take you through the Tsitsikamma Forest, before reaching Knysna in the heart of the famous Garden Route.
Day 9
- Cruise on the vast Knysna Lagoon and visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve for an amazing view of the imposing sandstone ‘Heads’ which guard the sea entrance. The remainder of the day is yours to explore the shops, markets and street cafés of Knysna.
Day 10
- Continue along the beautiful Garden Route and through the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn, the ‘ostrich capital of the world’. After lunch, tour an ostrich farm before visiting the Cango Caves, one of South Africa’s most incredible natural wonders.
Day 11
- Take in the fantastic scenery as you travel to Cape Town on Route 62 or, during the whale season (Jul-Nov) via the whaling town of Hermanus.
Day 12
- From Cape Town enjoy a full day touring the ruggedly beautiful Cape Peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope. There are stops at the fishing village of Hout Bay, Cape Point Nature Reserve and the penguins of Boulders Beach.
Day 13
- Travel today to the beautiful Cape Winelands region, taking in the historic towns of Paarl and Stellenbosch and wine tastings at two well known estates.
Day 14
- After a final night in Cape Town bid farewell to your new found friends for your transfer to the airport.
