The Thornybush reserve in South Africa could be the ideal location for an expedition, according to one writer.

In a piece for Herald Scotland, Julie Davidson pointed out that the destination has reinvented itself as a demand for photographic safari holidays has increased.

She added: "It feels settled and mature, with handsome terraces of bar, dining area, pool and spa overlooking the dry Monwana River, which explodes into flash floods only every few years."

And Ms Davidson noted that bad weather can even be a help when on a safari as she experienced when rain flushed out animals from their shady retreats into the open.

Earlier this month, Wendy Gomersal, writing for the Daily Mail, stated that the 130,000-acre South African Sanbona reserve – which should contain the so-called Big Five animals – lions, buffalo, elephants, leopards and rhino – would be good for anyone who loves to go on safari-type holidays.
