Keen travellers considering booking flights to South Africa might like to make sure they head to Kloof Street in Cape Town, as one local singer has recommended this district for its bohemian atmosphere.

Xolisa Mvula – who performs in clubs and at events – told the New York Times that this part of the city is good for anyone eager to head down the road less travelled, as it boasts a lot of stores and cafes.

Similarly, Long Street can offer those on the lookout for a unique experience a number of shops that cannot be found elsewhere, as well as the best vintage clothing outlet in the region and Baobab Books, an excellent second-hand store.

She also suggested sampling some of Texies Seafoods’ offerings, which can be found all over Cape Town – the eatery provides garlic basting, fried calamari, smoked snoek and linefish.

"After you taste that fish and chips, you’ll understand why you have to go there," Ms Mvula observed.
