Spending around two to five nights on a wildlife expedition in Africa could be the ideal amount, according to one writer.

In a piece for the Irish Times, Cathy O'Clery noted that within this time it is a good idea to have three nights in a luxury reserve on safari holidays.

She recommended South Africa as the best location for short-stay excursions as it offers an array of activities that can be combined, such as wine tasting and tours of historic battlefields.

But those who prefer adventure game trips might be better off in Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia or Zambia and Ms O'Clery added: "The best game viewing is at sunrise or late afternoon."

Individuals keen on a safari may like to check out Namibia, which was described by Gill Charlton, writing for the Telegraph, as a country with "dramatic scenery" – and she also noted that the roads are the best in the continent.
